God, Skill or just Plain Luck

March 16, 2017

"Luck is not a subject you can mention in the presence of self made men" E.B. White

Throughout each of our lives, there are a series of defining moments. These moments will make or break a human being. In each of these moments, it has been said that some people had all the luck, others were cursed and still others lay all the blame or gratitude to God.

Most recently with this sudden up rise in entrepreneurship, a debate on talent versus conditioning has arisen. Would you rather be talented or smart, which will get you the furthest in life?

In my perspective life is a beautiful collage of a little bit of everything. I truly believe if you put forth the time energy and effort, you can become fairly accurate at anything, as long as it is something you truly want. There's always the luck of genetics that might be on your side, allowing you to run a little faster or have a higher IQ. Because the IQ you are born with is the one that you leave with, you Control your dive into your own education and the subjects you choose to study which can change your life in itself.

You can make the active decision to surround yourself with people that have strengths where you have weaknesses--thus creating a deeper strength within itself. There are also those random acts within your life when you happen to be in the right place at the right time, and in these moments you have to ask yourself was it luck or was it God?

Back in my rodeo days, there was many a time I found myself stranded on the side of the road and a random Savior seem to always come to my aid (some more comical than others). Once I had no one stop for me but a hobo on a bicycle and as I brushed him off he proclaimed, "Be careful, there's a lot of weirdos out there". All I could think in this moment was: man God sure has a sense of humor!

No, I did not write this blog to get into the different perspectives of God and religion but simply to bring to the surface the idea that there are many opportunities within our lives, and it is our perspective on these opportunities or coincidences that can bring us further forward or further back in our lives.

Know that the first step in creating change and reaching any goal is to set your mind to it, the second is to find the knowledge that you need to get where you want to be, and the third is to work hard enough to reach that goal--and with the help of God, skill, and just plain luck, you will find yourself at your destination! But remember try to enjoy yourself along the way because life is not about the goal,

it's about the journey – none of us get out alive...
